GHoST Texas Perelman

Values: Concrete

This one is a lot subtler of a detail. Past the goofy intro page of the site, at the bottom is a patriotic message, saying “God Bless America!” and “We support our troops!” is a creation of values to help the organization seem more credible. As they support America, their religious ideals are strong and unabashed. This is an AMERICAN organization. MURICA!
Premise: Space
Upon investigating the home the youngest son was sleeping in the parent's room. GHoST did investigate the home and concluded the house had several spirits some who were wondering and others were attached to the people and home. A cleansing was completed and things remain quiet and the son has returned to his room.
Firstly, the spirits were wondering? Maybe the constant wailing sounds the ghosts make are actually them pondering what it means to be a ghost. Getting past that, the premise of this case study reveals that they are using personal stories to make the premise feel close to home. The boy was to spooped to sleep in his room, so he slept with his parents, which is something we’ve all experienced. This example is used for emotional appeal to parents.
Model
On this page, they display all their gadgets
The model argument made here by displaying all of their equipment is that this group is well prepared to catch themselves some ghosts. They have everything from ghost detectors to digital dowsers to BooBuddy Teddy Bears (I’m not making this one up, look at the link). All of this is to establish themselves as legitimate ghost hunters, models of what all ghost hunters should strive to be. Don’t even THINK about ghost hunting if you don’t got yourself a BooBuddy Teddy Bear, pal. If you don’t, leave it to the professionals.
Example: Single
The family in this home was having several different experiences. They would smell cigarette smoke in the master bedroom at times no one smoked and the home had been recently remodeled). They seen shadows in the kitchen and living room. They would feel cold spots throughout the home. It was even affecting the families dog.
A fair amount of activity occurred in   ### room as far as interaction with the equipment such as the Ovulis and the K-2 EMF detector. None seemed to feel malicious. It was noted by several investigators that the Master bedroom seemed quiet in comparison to other while in the master bedroom Donna and Reichal had interaction on the EMF device during Q&A. We picked up on the names Rob and Mary later research found no connection to these names. We did smell the cigarette smoke in the master bedroom described by our clients frequently throughout the night.
Following the investigation, we completed a cleansing and protection barrier around the home of our clients. The activity stopped and the family lives quietly in the home to this day.

The GHoST website is filled with different examples of supernatural incidents in which they went to a house to cleanse it of the supernatural. In this particular instance they talk about an instance of a haunting effect the odor of a client’s house and their dog. One important thing to note is that in none of the listed examples did they come across a house that wasn’t haunted; every single instance led to them cleansing the house, with every single instance curing the supposed problem of the house. There wasn’t a single case in which they said, “We determined there was no paranormal activity”. All of it is, “Spooky stuff happened, be afraid, we cleansed the house, you’re welcome”.

  1. I think in your thesis it would be great to somehow connect this to the exorcist and make these people seem like the preachers that exorcise houses and stuff like that. I think that is definitely what they are looking like, at least to me. Also, I think it would be good in showing they try to show their credibility with showing all of their high tech off to people. So that makes them super credible with all of their top notch ghost gear! Your thesis could be: GHoST attempts to establish credibility by channeling the exorcist, appealing to techies and other specific audiences, like parents.

  2. The website tries to create a very formal, serious, credible tone. From the home page graphics that fly back and forth, to the changing fonts and backgrounds it is obvious that someone has spent a lot of time creating a professional site. The website even has a mission statement and uses very technological, official language that increases their credibility in the mind of the visitor.
