Tonka GoBots outline

The Tonka GoBots advertisement works by two methods of persuasion: visual and narrative. These strategies work differently to target  young pre and post-literate boys.
  • VIsual
  • Half of the advertisement is occupied by a frantic, action centered scene which incorporates the characters of the product line.
  • The colors used are are not very vivid, and seem washed out which gives the scene the feeling of a dystopian warzone.
  • The title font is bold, italic, and lacks serifs giving it a futuristic and technical feel.
  • Virtually all of the font is italicized which indicates movement.
  • Narrative
    • The body text of the of the advertisement gives a fictional story which includes different characters from the product line.
    • Story uses male pronouns to relate to reader of the advertisement
    • The all-capitalized word draw attention to the text and reinforce names and scenes from the advertisement.
    • The story ends by addressing the reader to include him in the narrative.

The use of these different forms persuasive methods widen the appeal of the advertisement to younger boys who can enjoy the visual elements, and older literate boys who also enjoy the visuals but can also include themselves in the story of the GoBots.

  1. I think you have great content in your outline, but I think there may be too much in it. I feel like this amount of information is going to be hard to glance at and take in to follow during a presentation, without just reading the sentences. I think you should try to shorten the bullets so they don't read as sentences, but rather reminders. Also, you have no citations of sources (sounds hypocritical for me to say, because I just realized I don't have any on mine... whoops!).
