Kaitlin Gomez: Great Body shampoo outline

Introduction:

Attention Getter –
Statistic – Bloomberg – if economy was a woman 70-80%(2018)

Thesis/Topic –
Great Body shampoo ad is doing more than selling shampoo, it is providing imagery of women that tears down their idea of self-worth, while implying a working girl mentality.

Credibility –
As a student studying rhetoric, I have less than 2 weeks of knowledge to use for this but that should be enough to begin to analyze this ad.

Preview –
Now that we have some sense of directions, let’s talk about the Rhetorical Devices for this ad. Focusing on Scheme,

Body:

Piece 1 (SCHEME ) <
·      Repetition of Words < “Great Body”
·      Choice of Phrase <goes from negative to positive

Transition

Piece 2 (VISUAL) <
·      Color & Imagery
·      Color – high saturation of image makes the photos appear more appealing
·      Imagery – sells sex / working girl idea
There is no reason for them to be topless, if all we are selling is shampoo.

Transition

Piece 3 TYPE < Font Family (Serif)
·      Implies seriousness and adds an official tone to the ad.
·      Great Body is a shampoo product and would have benefitted from a sans serif font,
that made the product seem fun, implies good times are ahead for those AFTER girls.

Conclusion:
Summary – Through a rhetorical analysis we have analyzed the Scheme, Visual, and Type and have identified the implied argument in the Great Body ad.

Psychological Closure – Most ad’s will have some implied message if you look hard enough for it. After all, ads are trying to sell you the product, so they must be made to fit a large audience.

  3. Your outline is very clear an concise. You have your argument presented efficiently, and all of the steps are eye-catching. I really like the use of the red to highlight what the important content is. Your content, organization, and neatness are all great. I think this will work well when you deliver your presentation.
