1. I want to use the acceptance frame “epic” from Burke’s Burkean frames to enforce the overall bigger picture this movement frames. This bigger picture is supported by an epic frame which the FIRM organization as the group struggling against the bigger power, which is the government and their law of immigration being enforced. Using this toolbox theory will allow me to set the stage for creating a better visual for what this movement is up against in order to overcome obstacles.

2.  I will be using the reading, “Resisting Whiteness: Mexican American Studies and Rhetorical Struggles for Visibility.” This reading helps create understanding as to why the people of this organization are fighting for this. The reading highlights how the ‘whiteness ideologies’ effect the way of living for Mexican Americans, which coincides directly with the people of this organization. I can emphasize the way life of those within this organization is hurt because ideologies of other races separate families.

3. I want to use the reading “The mothers come together” by Bouvard since it highlights mothers split from their sons. The reading emphasizes reform against a higher power, which suits my reform extremely well. Being able to make connections to this reading from the FIRM organization will fit and make better connections for me. Using this reading allows for better understanding and connect to the audience for what the people are actually going through; The severity of a family being torn apart and not knowing what else can be done. This reading can also allow me to explore the institutions created by ICE that detain immigrants and have them dying.

I also have the FIRM website that contains articles about news and reports of what they are fighting and what has been going on. I can use these articles to make connections to the reading and toolboxes so that there is context from the organization itself instead of vague ideas that are connected because its in the rubric.
