Ad Analysis Presentation Outline Draft

Ad Analysis Presentation Outline
Intro:
-Attention Getter: TBD
-Preview: My name is Hannah Presley and after analyzing this ad, I am going to be sharing my findings with you based on Vrooman’s Rhetorical Devices chart. We are going to be looking at schemes, tropes, visual, and type in the ad and how they each convey a message of perfection to the typical American family in 1950.
Body:
-Piece 1: Schemes
  • Anaphora: There are a lot of “I” statements all over the ad. These “people” had great experiences, and you will too!
  • Antithesis: “More for Less”; you can get more travel with Greyhound for less money, and we know you don’t have a lot of money.
  • TBD
-Piece 2: Tropes
  • TBD
-Piece 3: Visual
  • Saturation: high, all of the colors are very vivid and full because that’s what colors look like in a perfect world.
  • Geometric: illusion of depth because the woman is a lot closer than the bus in the background. She is the focus rather than the bus because she has to stay home and take care of the family. The only reason she takes the bus is to hang out with friends or go sight-seeing, not to work or college like the men.
  • Abstraction: The drawings are realistic. However, I highly doubt the bus actually picks you up at your house.
  • High Contrast Light: All of the colors of the page pop. The colors in the woman’s dress contrast and don’t go well together but match the rest of the ad.
-Piece 4: Type
  • Italics: The words in the title are in italics as well as the header of the first paragraph. This draw attention to the title and header because they are relatable to the typical farm family, especially men reading Country Gentleman.
  • TBD
Conclusion:
The use of schemes, tropes, visual, and type in this ad conveys a message of perfection that every typical family in America was searching for in the early 1950s. The women stay home and only leave to go shopping while the men leave to go to college and work, and Greyhound can help make this American perfection a reality in your country home.

  1. After reading your outline I feel I have a very clear understanding as to what you will be speaking on. I am still a little confused as to what your thesis statement is. You give plenty of good contextual pieces but it just the main argument you are missing here. Other then fixing those pieces as well as what you are still determining, you have a good outline here.
