Windy City Paranormal

Windy City Paranormal Fallacies

Begging the question- Ghosts may or may not exist, but a lot of people feel that they are true. Only because they have experienced things for themselves. That is a lot of what the home page consists of in a way. They are explaining that they can explain what MAY be paranormal activity, but it also could just be “natural causes”. They also see “seeking to prove nor disprove any alleged paranormal experiences.” So ghosts must be real because they have experienced them for themselves through the hunting and form stories people have told them.

Wishful Thinking- I feel like they are saying that ghosts MIGHT exist, but they are also saying that it could just be from natural causes. There are a lot of inconsistency in the argument that they are hunting real ghosts. It’s kind of like they are telling their clients that they are idiots and they will just tell them that it is of natural causes, not some paranormal stuff. It may or may not be real, but we will come check it out for you just in case it is. We hope its real for the purpose of our company.

Emotional Appeal- The home page speaks often about the teams honesty and its respect the really awesome ways they get the job done for you. They talk about how it’s all for the client and that they will be super nice and friendly. Even though we all know that with most companies, they do business for their own benefit, but hey, it draws you in, so it works.

Accent- WCP is said over and over again. It is almost as if they are stressing that WCP is the one that does all this stuff, not any of the competitors. So you should definitely go with them instead of any other company. Because WCP does it all. And they do it respectfully.

Poisoning the Well- They start off by saying that ghost hunting is by no means an exact science. They are flat out saying that they know it’s not science and that it’s not provable, but they will hunt your “ghosts” anyway. They are in a way attempting to tell their clients that they know its not science, and they know they are probably wrong on some things, but hey, publicity!

Appeal to Consequences- Belief in the use of the equipment they use in the hunting makes clients want to believe that it is all true. The hunters have all this equipment that they use, fancy or not, I mean a DVR… really, but it makes things seem more real to the clients. They will be believing that their buildings are haunted just because they believe that the equipment an pick up on the paranormal activity.

Emotional Appeal- The clients have faith in this equipment and all they say it can do, so it makes them feel confident in the investigation, so it must be true. All this equipment is really going to finally prove the feelings they have been having before they called in the investigators. (What do you call an alligator wearing a vest… an investigator… HAHA! Okay sorry…) It is just a back up for “proving” an unprovable thing, as they stated it’s not a science.

Wishful thinking- They all want to believe that all of this equipment will make it more true. Well it looks all professional so it must mean that all this stuff will prove the existence of some kind of ghost in the facility.

Wishful thinking- Just like the wishful thinking with the equipment, all of this so-called evidence is because they want to believe it is all true. Like the one about the electricity not running through the surgery room, that could have been any number of things, but the recording using the EVP makes them really want to believe it.

Hasty Generalization- All of these recordings aren’t really proof that ghosts exist. Things happen and even they themselves say that ghosts aren’t really the reason that stuff like this happens. It might be, but there are natural causes. These recordings have unexplainable noises, so there must be ghosts.

Anecdotal Fallacy/Misleading Vividness- This in an obvious one. All of this “evidence” is based off of peoples’ stories and things they believe to be activity in the recordings. All of the recordings are from the EVPs, devices that can pick up sounds not heard by human ear, but there is a high possibility that they are just saying these things to make you believe in it more.

Post Hoc- In several of the recordings they are speaking and asking the ghosts to do something, or speaking about something related to the story of the ghost, and then… oh my gosh that thing moved and I heard a sound that sounded like a voice!
