Example- Hasty Generalization
“Just
because it is a shadow figure or some form of black mass does not necessarily
make it evil or demonic. ... Personally, in my 15 plus years of
investigating I can count on one hand the cases that truly turned out to be
demonic in nature.”
|
In this specific
statement, the reader is given a run around essentially in what this specific
investigator has really experienced to the deep core of their ghost/demonic experiences
have come across. We aren’t given the specific moments of time in description
what so ever as to when or how the rare occurrences had come upon that the
black essence viewed was actually of demonic nature.
|
Red Herring
“Although EVP’s are a good form of evidence, we strive to
get visual proof to validate all of the personal experiences that have been
encountered.”
|
Prior to this specific
statement, the blog post is essentially focalized towards the utilization of
video that the Houston team uses in specific parts of the house or residence
that they investigate, in response EVP’s are pointed towards as there “go-to”.
Which from the angle I see it as, EVP’s is the subject that is supposed to
distract the audience from why video isn’t always the most efficient tool in their
investigations and how it doesn’t again, bring up a true visual.
|
Tu Quoque fallacy
“So by this point, you might be asking yourself why I
would agree to be part of this team? The reason is simple, I am in love with
science, in all forms.”
|
Tu Quoque fallacy,
also meaning hypocrisy, essentially would work within this statement given
from one of the crew members ultimate reason for being part of the team. As
most know that there is no concise distinction between what is acceptable
between a science realm of what is here in a standard function or form and an
spiritual/afterlife realm.
|
Appeal to Authority
“Being a paramedic I am taught to think critically…. Well,
this isn’t rationalism. This is an evidence based science experiment.”
|
Given the context that this investigator of the team is
speaking on, he is using his credibility of his background of job experience
as an over extent. As well as appealing within hypocrisy of his own past line
of work.
