Speech Outline- LEGO Ad: What it is is beautiful.

LEGO Ad: What it is is beautiful. Speech Outline
Introduction: I have a sentimental personality so when I saw this Ad, it instantly brought me back to the nostalgic afternoons, living for the adventures my imagination took me on…
These: LOGO is appealing to pathos by emphasizing the uniqueness in self-expression through creativity and breaking the gender stereotypes.
Point One: Focal points
The reflection from the girls red hair and the value of her fare, freckled face immediately draws the viewers’ attention to recognize her proud smirk. At this point, I’m sure you intentionally or unintentionally wondered why she was so proud, and that attracted your eyes to the product, level to her chest. Then the eyes are drawn down at the words “What it is is beautiful.”. Naturally the viewer would then take a deeper look at the product to see the beauty the Ad is claiming to have.

Point Two: Visual Analysis
Everything is centered and balanced. The text is white bold and sans serif. I analyzed the color white to represent a blank canvas that emphasized the potential of creativity. The abstraction of what she built is from pure imagination. Pathos is used as a persuasive technique to create emotions of guilt when LEGO says, “Have you seen anything like it? Not just what she’s made, but how proud it’s made her. It’s the look you’ll see whenever children build something all by themselves.”. This can also be tied in with their ideology of childhood; “So parents: now is the time to buy this product before your children gets any older.”(mocking).

Point Three: Breaking Gender Stereotypes
In the gender stereotype, men are traditionally known for building things, but LEGO breaks that stereotype. The girl is dressed as a “tom boy” to specifically appeal to both genders and while addressing their intended audience they say “children”. Not to mention, the product itself is named "Universal Building Set".

Conclusion: Universality/Beauty

I was drawn to analyze this ad because of its appeals to the uniqueness and importance of expressing creativity. It’s clear that LEGO was aiming for that sentimental spot in their audiences’ heart by emphasizing the universality of beauty being in the eye or in this case hands of the beholder.

Speech Outline "THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN"

INTRO:
-Anyone with a brother knows about all the latest action figures and superheroes, unless my brother just actually thought I was listening to him when we were kids. Regardless, you had to seem interested until he finally walked away to resume playing with his stupid toy.

BODY:
Schemes: abbreviation
- the use of trademark symbol

Tropes: Hyperbole
-using words to exaggerate the awesomeness of this new toy!!!

Visual: Oblique
-image is unstable and the most important figure is much larger than the rest.

Closed
- The Ad is very full with images and words, highlights the importance of the figure.

Longshots
-The largest image is the most important. The size difference draws in potential consumers to buy that one. Of course any young kid is going to want the BIGGEST and BEST toy.

Hue
-American themed color way throughout the entire Ad. Because whats more manly than supporting your country, and learning at a young age that you must go to war and resort to violence in every situation.

Type: Style
- Bold and all caps letters draw in the potential consumer a little bit more. The use of frequent red words, really makes people focus in on very important details.

CONCLUSION:
Was this Ad effective?

Tuff Stuff Outline

Tuff Stuff Outline

Intro
-          Talk about how the ad tries to sell to their consumers.

Point #1
-          The ad has 6 different areas where it is written in bold so they make sure the consumer reads them.
-          Also the add tries to give reasons why people should buy these toys.

Point #2
-          The toys are in many different colors which forces the consumer to take a look at the toys.
-          Also the little girl is dressed in the same colors as the toys.

Point #3
-         There is a little bit of a gender role depiction in the ad but the father reduces that thought because if it was the little girl’s mother, it would demonstrate how the mother is passing down her role as a mother to her daughter.

      Conclusion

-          The ad is being sold pretty well and I feel like they did a good job on trying to persuade their consumers.

PlayDoh Outline

Intro:

-        Talk about PlayDoh

-        At one point or another we’ve encountered one of these characters

Medium Shot/ Eye Level

-        Characters are big names, need to be identifiable

-         Staring directly at the kid who is viewing the ad

-        Playdoh in the foreground

-        Even Darth Vader is bright

-        Darth Vader is a friend

-        Even container is bright

Open Space

-        Space to the left and right

-        Implying that you can be next to them

-        Strawberry Shortcake raises the arm next to her.

Conclusion

-        Playdoh ad is using credibility of characters to sell both Play-Doh and other brand name products

Strawberry Shortcake Ad Outline

Introduction:
-Story of how I always wanted a Strawberry Shortcake Doll, but my mom wouldn't let me have one.
-Now after 15 years I am glad she didn't get me one because I find them problematic for little girls due to the dolls depiction of young girls.

Main Point 1: Little girls are depicted as smelling "delicious", which be problematic for little girls normalizing being "smelt".
-The bold text tells the audience that the dolls smell "delicious".
-Encourages kids to smell the dolls, normalizing smelling females.

Main Point 2: Encourages girls to partake in traditional nuclear family female roles.
-Traditional female colors and outfits
-The text encourages stereotypical girl activities such as baking and picnicking.

Main Point 3:The male adult figure is depicted as a dominating male power figure of these little girl dolls.
-Appearance: evil-looking, crow, mustache, significantly taller than the rest, dark colors
-Only male figure

Conclusion:
-Summary of points connected with introduction
-Despite their seemingly innocent demeanor, these dolls are potentially problematic for little girls in how they are advertised.

Evel Knievel 1976- presentation outline

Caleb Calderon

Evel Knievel- 1976 Ideal toy corporation

Leading ideology type:

- Hegemony; "buying into the version of" american culture that is pressed upon as the common way of society.
      >semivalence: reches into american population (boys primarily, excluding girls as time as pre-gender meshing is not norm as of yet)

Function of allurement:

VISUAL / STYLE
- Hue and Focalizers; leading factors in my opinion in how the ad reiterates the red, white, and blue colors.
      >Habitus of "american thrill/fun" expressed as well from the bold and all caps that function within the flashiness of colors that are themed.
     > assurance of excitement across the board for the desired audience once lured in.
    > High contrasts- compatibility with popping features for intended main focuses.

Repetition/rhythm

TROPES/SCHEMES
- Constant of phrases and vowels that are put placed throughout subtext and final catch.
   >Working to reiterate hegemony of the ad itself.
   >Maintains the excitement and liveliness that work hand in hand within the cultural context of American thrill-"Evel" originated from evil-embarking on adventure.

PlaySkool Tape Recorder Ad Outline

PlaySkool Tape Recorder Advertisement Outline

1. Intro - Sarcastic Intro plus a Little Narrative

(All of this said sarcastically)
(Also, kind of playing around with this so suggestions on how to do this would be nice)

What do those parents dream of who have crazy ass kids?

A device that can control their crazy ass kid.

This ad presents a solution!

A tape recorder!

I wish my parents had this around when my brother was cutting his hair with safety scissors to make his hair look like a tornado.

However, I don't think that would have stopped him.

2. Point One: Ad is Stereotypical and Enhances Traditional Gender Roles

- First Thoughts on the Ad: Why would a boy like this use something like a tape recorder, you think he would be the last person to buy this, he would probably be used for a b-b gun commercial.

-boys are stereotypically crazy and all over the place so this ad is representing stereotypes of boys being tough and rough with everything

-Also it encourages boys to be loud and project their voice in society. What they say matters and they need to project it over everyone else. (will cite source in this one)

3. Point Two: Control of the Child through High Contrast

- High contrast visually and with the objects in the advertisement.

- You have this Looney Toons Tasmanian Devil character boy and this tape recorder resisting his boxing gloves and destructive behavior.

- In the text it has a lot of words about keeping the kid under control with a list of mechanisms of the tape recorder that helps parents keep their kid under control.

4. Point Three: Red = Warning!

- Red color is everywhere.

- Red is usually a color of warning, so it is warning us this crazy boy is coming.

- White color is warring the red color like calm in the middle of the storm.

5. Conclusion:

This ad presents a lot of different aspects. It presents stereotyping of boys being loud and encouraging that loudness, giving parents a sense of control through text and high contrast, and the high amount of red in the ad presents the sense of warning that the boy is cray and destructive.

This ad says boys are rough and tough and don't give a crap. I am waiting for an ad that shows a boy giving a crap and gives boys depth. Because I know my brother has a lot more depth to him than what this ad says here.

Tonka GoBots outline

The Tonka GoBots advertisement works by two methods of persuasion: visual and narrative. These strategies work differently to target  young pre and post-literate boys.
  • VIsual
  • Half of the advertisement is occupied by a frantic, action centered scene which incorporates the characters of the product line.
  • The colors used are are not very vivid, and seem washed out which gives the scene the feeling of a dystopian warzone.
  • The title font is bold, italic, and lacks serifs giving it a futuristic and technical feel.
  • Virtually all of the font is italicized which indicates movement.
  • Narrative
    • The body text of the of the advertisement gives a fictional story which includes different characters from the product line.
    • Story uses male pronouns to relate to reader of the advertisement
    • The all-capitalized word draw attention to the text and reinforce names and scenes from the advertisement.
    • The story ends by addressing the reader to include him in the narrative.

The use of these different forms persuasive methods widen the appeal of the advertisement to younger boys who can enjoy the visual elements, and older literate boys who also enjoy the visuals but can also include themselves in the story of the GoBots.

Unico Outline

Some people took Fisher Price and LEGO, I took Unico, two of these things are still around and relevant. I think Unico is a example of bad advertising. It needed to make 2 adds if not decide on one market.

  • Unico's colors
Blue and Pink(boys and girls)
very light and saturated(appeal to kids)

  • Unico shows a boy and girl
Asian boy(appeal to Asian American market) White girl(appeal to young girls who would like cutesy anime)

Unico died in the no man's land between the girl and boy isle. That was and is the structure of the American toy isle.
