Under the donald trump administration We have all Witnessed tension between White Americans and Chicanos

Credibility:
-        Name, Vrooman’s charts, toolboxes, student of rhetoric, My background as a chicano, stories from my grandfather who faced racism and was part of the first generation of desegregation, I have done lots of research on my own about chicano history, I took a chicano studies class last semester

Thesis:
-        The Chicano movement was not entirely successful politically, but it succeeded in changing the culture, and giving mexican Americans an Identity that was previously stripped from them, through mainly ideographs and symbols

Preview:
-        The Chicano Movement uses imagery of indigenous ancestors to instill a sense of nationalism within the nation of America, and a reclamation of their heritage

Body:
       I.       Start of the Movement
a.     Why the movement was created - lulac and other movements were not radical enough, and played to white supremacy, attempting to assimilate instead of stand out, poor treatment of chicano youth, no opportunities, not encouraged for higher education

b.     What needed to be communicated- the people were fed up with the mistreatment if the youth and civilians as a result of white supremacy, created a separate identity from Mexicans and Americans, establishing Chicanismo

II.          Signs used at rallies
a.     What they communicate (Tropes/Schemes)

b.     What they look like (Tropes/Schemes)

Aztlan
The term Aztlan refers to the mythical Aztec homeland north of Mexico City, which provided an escapism and future, free of racism to look forward to.

Cultural pluralism is the most important subject in the Chicano movement

There was a shift in focus from Equality to Justice

Conclusion:
Thesis: The Chicano movement was a very important part of the Civil rights movement that is often disregarded and forgotten about, I believe that it should discussed more, especially in Texas, and given the violence and tension between white America and its Immigrants, the movement is as relevant now as it ever was, the movement did succeed in uniting the people, making them willing to fight, and creating cultural pluralism

Clencher:  The Chicano Movement never ended, it has simply been repressed and dismissed
