When attempting to sell a food product, an interesting technique that can be found in the advertising world is the use of synesthesia, the blending of human senses, in order to convince the target audience of the quality of the experience provided by such product. In this ad by Nob Hill Coffee, the use of synesthesia is the main selling point, as the company uses the idea of “aromatic flavor” as their differential. They do this by suggesting that “you can really taste the smell of the coffee.”
The ad's argument is trying to appeal to all of your senses to really get you to invest in what you are buying. In this time period all house wives want to do is keep their husband happy, therefore this ad is leading us to believe that this coffee will please your husband like it pleased Jim. I am curious about why she is wearing yellow while the background is also yellow. As well as the significance of the smell. I have personally never been able to smell a difference in different coffees, so what is the real catch here?
