Ad #1 Analysis

  1. A thesis that I would suggest would be:

The Pan-American Coffee Bureau utilizes an instance of red text for the purpose of emphasis and suggestive language in order to promote a new brand of iced coffee, but also incorporates subtle visual details and additional suggestive language in an effort to push an agenda that reinforces gender expectations in America during the mid- 20th century.

  2. Many advertisements seek to provide the target audience with a way to end a certain social anxiety and this ad by the Pan-American Coffee Bureau does just that. By suggesting that their product, Iced Coffee, will “tear down those fences that hide each other’s hearts,” the advertisement seeks to lead the audience into understanding that this product could be used as an ice-breaker in order to start conversation with a potential partner. This becomes clear through the main image of a woman pouring the neighbor some coffee while others watch in amusement.

  3. I believe this ad is trying to get across that you can win over a man by being a good house wife and making him new things while he is hard at work. This ad is geared towards younger women who are in the market. This ice coffee will. break down fences and introduce you to your hardworking new husband. Or even new friends. Either way you go this coffee will break down fences and build a bridge across to the other side.
The only reason I bring up the house wife angle is due to the time period and the looks on the families faces towards the back, as they are in shock and intriuged that she is meeting a new boy.

  4. i believe this ad is trying to set across the point that the coffee is family friendly and that everyone can enjoy some together. I think you portrayed that very well however on the meaning of the sayings said in the ad i think you could go more into detail of the persuasion and the types of tropes used. Otherwise Good job!
