Ad 27 Analysis

  1. This was a very good analysis of this ad. I enjoyed reading all of the things that you wrote. An argument that you can make is that Kellogg's supports stereotypical gender roles. You can argue and prove based on the ad that women need to serve the man. Based on the phrase "If you want to be taken out in the evening, don't run out in the morning", you could argue that women should provide for the husband to get a reward for "doing your job". If a woman wants to be happy, then they should do what a man says and make them happy first. Based on this ad and the way it looks, you can argue that gender roles are being pushed upon society. When this ad was made, it was normalizing the gender roles during this period and making them more popular because of the way relationships were during this time.

  2. The entire analysis of the Kellogg's Cereal was very nice. I think the main idea that is being persuaded is the fact that Kellogg's cereal is in comparison with someone you love. We see that it says "The Best To You Each Morning" and I think it is trying to convey that Kellogg's is just like your wife or someone you love, maybe even trying to say that it is better. We see that through the relationship between the man and the women on the box and how the girl is messing around. I think in this situation the man cares more about the cereal since he needs to eat breakfast.

  3. I thought the analysis of this ad was spot on by pointing out that the lady is smiling, and the man is looking upset that he has ran out of cereal. I believe an argument that can be used from this ad is that Kellogg’s is so delicious for breakfast it can keep everyone happy. The role that is played by the woman is what looks like the housewife and is her “job” to “keep him happy” so she does so by having another box of cereal for him.

  4. The analysis was so good! There are a lot of arguments that can be made. The ad was very effective, even if it is outdated, it shows the passage of time. The key word being was. It shows the role of women, at the time, and it shows the relationship between the two people in the advertisement. It normalized the gender roles, because it wanted to appeal to 'traditional' households. You should make an argument based on how things change, and the effectiveness declining due to this.

  5. Very good analysis! Lots of stuff to talk about in your presentation. I believe the ad does a good job pointing out that the food is so good they have used it all up. It also does a great job at directing you to the product.
