Mikhayla, I agree with a lot of points you have in terms of how specific sequences or image parts are meant to be interpreted. The polyvalence of the ad overall in essence is meant for the audience to see that the tape recorder is essentially sustainable in attaining it's structure, portrayed from the "wild child" who is likely prone to violence in his usage of toys is not able to break it apart at all.
I really like what you have pointed out here and agree immensely with the points that you have made. The tape recorder is something so strong that even it can withstand a rough and tumble bow who, more than likely, has broken the rest of his toys up until this point. I do think that you could explore the question as to why a boy who is obviously so rough with his stuff would want to play with a tape recorder.
Boys need to be in control, aggressive, powerful, unbeatable, etc. The red coloring heightens this, his facial expression, the random stuck on band aid and dirt that we know is there for effect, etc etc etc. A little girl would not have been placed in this ad. We do not ascribe unbeatable and rough and tumble with women as quickly as men. I mean it is good that the toy is unbreakable, but there is a gendered hard right on this.
