The thing I am getting from you in this ad is that you do not feel it is gender based and I really like that. You focus on the face that it is about childhood and play and having fun. I think that is important. It does tend to use pronouns like "he" and I feel that is important to the ad as well. I like your description to the color and contrast showing emphasis on the toy rather that on the child. I think that was important to notice.
ReplyDeleteI like this ad a lot. Especially the fact that the mother is featured in it with her son (vs mother only with daughter in other ads) it emphasizes what you said about the parent being happy with the toys. All parents. Additionally, the focus on childhood that you noted it quite true. We see so much going on but the toys themselves showcase what our imaginations created in our own childhood and I believe that is a advertising technique they were well aware of.
ReplyDeleteLike others have said I like that you did not focus on gender as the main rhetorical tool used in this ad, despite the male pronoun use. Though you could comment on this I think the most apparent message is in the text of that ad which emphasizes multiple times that childhood is short and fleeting. You may also comment on the mother as an observer rather than active participant in the child's play.
