Thomas Snooks - Joy Waymire Arguments - Individual Freedoms

Observed Truth, Concrete Value and Hierarchy
“same as when the Lord/Creator gave all people Free Will” “Marriage is between the Lord/Creator,  a male & female soul.”
“I was no longer interested in learning what men had to teach.”
Core arguments stem from a concept that Christian laws/rules are the natural laws of the world, set down by an irrefutable authority, and that these are inviolate.  From this stance, the remainders of her arguments spawn.

This is a concrete reality and moral system she asserts as agreed upon.
Contradiction and Justice argument

“But for government to make certain rules and regulations that take away the individual’s freedom of choice, then government has over stepped its bounds.”
The reduction of freedom contradicts her core argument that freedom is from God, and she insists that no violation of said freedom is acceptable.
Expression Disassociation

You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make them drink. Yet government believes that with rules, regulations, fines, etc., they can manipulate the people to do whatever they believe is right.
Comparison of government goals and actions to a common saying, allowing her to not need to explicitly state her opinion and forcing the reader to assume that their interpretation of the issue is Waymires. By using such metaphorical language, she is able to summarize a larger issue into vague terms.
Golden Age

“ too many voters are too young to remember what it was like before so many freedoms were stripped away in time.”
We once had so much more freedom, and that made yesteryears world much better than today.
Sacrifice
“They have grown accustomed to the “right of entitlement” as dictated by legislation”
What has been lost (freedom) is no longer recognized as lost.
Aggregation by means of Amplification

“The following is a partial list. . .  I will not go into detail on each for the amount of space it would entail.”
By stating that she will only cover a small part, and that not in detail, she is able to pile more and more violations of ‘divine freedom’ upon the governments list of sins, thereby expanding the conceived list further than any exhaustive list she herself her compile.
Repetition

“Does not mean it is right” “No business dictating” “Natural Right” “Not the governments place/right/responsibility”(seven times)
Saying the same line over and over to reinforce the idea.

  1. I think you did a fantastic job on analyzing Joy Waymire's arguments as well as identifying her core argument. It might be interesting to see if the way she argues is similar to the traditional Christian hierarchy(sort of like fact checking).

  2. I like this analysis of Waymire. When reading through the chart i saw she wanted a changed that contradicted her beliefs of the nature of freedom. i think it would be good to look into this and figure out the motive?
