In
each of his 7 sections (Criminal Justice, Entitlements, Foreign Policy,
Education, Economy, Border Security and Immigration, and Healthcare for
America’s Veterans), Christie takes his main ideas and amplifies them through
examples
|
He
amplifies them through small examples to make people see he has a real plan
and to show what he did as Governor of New Jersey. He is trying to show that he has
experience.

Amplification
|
“America
must remain the home of innovation in the world.” There is then a list about
what all needs to happen.
|
Christie
is very specific about his focus areas for innovation – research, education
and access to capital (money).

Premise
modifier/presence/
Metabole
(using synonymous expressions)
|
Christie
uses 5 different phrases to mean low-income:
-wrong
zip code
-low-income
-struggling
districts
-children
trapped in school districts with large performance gaps
-those
at the bottom
|
Christie
has several specific ideas for helping address problems in the education
system. They all seem to target the
low-income areas.
|
Quasi-logical/
Incompatability
|
“Governor
Christie has Brought Unprecedented Conservative Reform to One of the Bluest
States in America.”
|
Since
a liberal state does not usually go for conservative reform, Christie seems
to be saying that he accomplished the impossible.
|
Quasi-logical
argument/ dilemma
|
We
need to keep social security alive but limit its growth.
|
Christie
argues that we cannot afford to let social security grow at the current rate
so we need to make some hard choices to limit its growth. It does not sound like there are any good
choices.
|
Quasi-logical
argument/contemptuous comparison
|
“disgraceful”
the way some politicians put their agenda ahead of American safety.
|
He
is saying that he is different from the people currently in Washington and
that he will not do that.
|
Quasi-logical/comparison/
golden-age
|
We
used to keep out word with our allies but we have not recently.
|
Christie
disagrees with our current foreign policy activities and believes that they
are bad and that we should go back to what we used to do. He says that it is the way to keep freedom
in the world.
|
Based
on the structure of reality/co-existence
|
His
plan is to “keep communities safe while helping non-violent offenders reclaim
their lives.”
|
Christie
is painting a positive picture. Everyone
wants a safe community, but he believes that a part of that is helping some
criminals be rehabilitated and getting them to rejoin the community.
